A HORSE POEM FOR LISA

 

James Babbs

 

she keeps telling me I should

write more poems about horses

but I don’t know that much about them

she says I should

say something about how it feels

riding across the fields

with the wind blowing through my hair

but I’ve never ridden horses

and I’m not even sure I like them

but she gets so excited

talking about them

how wonderful they are and

how taking care of them

is truly a labor of love

and with such a gleam in her eyes

that I just can’t wait

to write it all down
